ABOUT INCENSE

The word comes from the Latin word incendere which means 'to burn'. Incense was used by the ancient Egyptians and incense was also found in the Indus civilization (3300 BC - 1300 BC). Initially incense was probably mainly used for the pleasant aroma. But in Asia around 2000 BC the use of incense in the ceremonial sense started, for rites, ceremonies, purification, puja and bhakti.
